Triploid Grass Carp

Asian grass carp were first introduced into to the U.S. in 1963 to investigate their usefulness in controlling aquatic vegetation. The carp have proven to be very effective in controlling many varieties of floating and submerged aquatic weeds. The triploid grass carp grow rapidly under favorable conditions. The carp consume vegetation intermittently at temperatures as low as 37 degrees F., eat steadily between 55 and 70 degrees with optimal consumption occurring at temperatures between 70 and 85 degrees.

Nisqually Trout Farms, Inc. has the triploid grass carp available nearly all year. You can stock the carp in your pond most any time of the year but the ideal time to is when the weeds are first starting to grow in the early spring. A typical stocking rate is 10-15 carp per vegetated acre. Popular uses for the carp are in private ponds, golf courses, public lakes, and other waterways that prefer a non-chemical solution to their weed control.
